Nest Thermostat Reviews

Every Google Nest thermostat reviewed — pros, cons, energy savings and whether it’s worth buying in the UK.

Google makes three Nest thermostats for the UK market. At the top is the Learning Thermostat, which programs itself. In the middle is the Thermostat E with its frosted display. At the entry level is the 2020 Thermostat, which you set manually via the app. All three work with Google Home and Alexa and are compatible with most UK combi boilers.

Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Gen)
Best Smart Thermostat

Learning: Auto-schedule  |  Hot water: Yes  |  Display: Colour HD  |  Works with: Google Home & Alexa

The benchmark smart thermostat. Learns your heating schedule within a week, turns itself down when you leave and the Energy History feature shows exactly what’s driving your bills. Most households find it pays for itself within a year or two. Expensive upfront — but difficult to argue against if budget allows.

Nest Thermostat E
Best Mid-Range Nest

Learning: Auto-schedule  |  Hot water: Yes  |  Display: Frosted white  |  Works with: Google Home & Alexa

Most of what the Learning Thermostat does at a lower price. The frosted white display is designed to blend into a wall rather than stand out. Energy savings are comparable and all the core smart features are present. A good choice if the Learning Thermostat feels expensive but you still want a self-learning Nest.

Nest Thermostat (2020)
Best Budget Smart Thermostat

Learning: Manual schedule  |  App control: Yes  |  Display: Mirror finish  |  Works with: Google Home & Alexa

Google’s most affordable smart thermostat. Doesn’t self-learn — you set the schedule yourself in the app — but remote control, Home/Away Assist and the Savings Finder feature are all included. A practical entry point for anyone who wants smart heating control without the premium price.
