If your Arlo Essential 3 is showing this problem, working through the checks below in order will resolve it in the large majority of cases. Each step is safe to carry out yourself and is verified against Arlo’s official support guidance.
What This Problem Means
The Arlo Essential 3 is repeatedly dropping its connection and reconnecting. This is nearly always a Wi-Fi signal strength or network configuration issue.
Common Symptoms
- Camera repeatedly shows as offline then comes back online
- Frequent offline notifications from the Arlo Secure app
- Live View fails to load or cuts out
- Motion alerts arrive late or not at all
Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Check Wi-Fi signal strength
Open the Arlo Secure app and check the Wi-Fi signal. Below two bars and the camera will experience regular disconnections. A Wi-Fi extender near the camera will improve stability.
2. Restart the camera and router
Press and hold the sync button on the camera for 10 seconds until the LED flashes, then release. Wait 60 seconds for it to restart. Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds at the same time. Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds. Many disconnection issues resolve with a clean restart of both.
3. Check for Wi-Fi interference
Try switching to a less congested Wi-Fi channel in your router settings. On 2.4GHz, channels 1, 6 and 11 overlap the least.
4. Separate the Wi-Fi bands
If your router merges 2.4GHz and 5GHz under one network name, separate them in your router settings. Connecting specifically to 2.4GHz gives better range and more stable connections through walls.
5. Update firmware
Check for a firmware update in the Arlo Secure app under Device Settings.
6. Check battery level
A low battery can cause intermittent disconnections. Recharge via USB-C. Monitor for improvement after charging.
