Is your Echo Pop unable to control smart home devices?

What This Problem Means

Alexa cannot communicate with one or more smart home devices — most commonly caused by a skill disconnecting or a device needing re-pairing.

Common Symptoms

  • Asking Alexa to control lights or plugs returns “I couldn’t find a device”
  • Some devices work but others do not
  • Devices stopped working after a firmware update

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Run Device Discovery

In the Alexa app go to Devices → the plus icon → Add Device → Other → Discover Devices. This re-establishes connections for devices that have dropped.

2. Check the Skill for the Affected Brand

In the Alexa app go to More → Skills & Games. Find the relevant skill (Philips Hue, Hive, LIFX etc.) and check it is enabled and your account is still linked. Re-link if needed.

3. Restart the Affected Smart Home Device

Power cycle the smart home device that is not responding — switch off at the socket, wait 10 seconds, then restore power.

4. Restart the Echo Device

Unplug the Echo Pop from the wall, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. The built-in hub reinitialises on startup.

5. Check the Device Is Still Supported

Occasionally manufacturers change their Alexa integration. Check if the brand has released a new version of their Alexa skill and re-enable it.
