Ring Indoor Camera Plus Night Vision Not Working
Is the night-time picture from your Ring Indoor Camera Plus black, washed out or unclear? Here are the checks you can safely carry out before contacting support.
What This Problem Means
The Ring Indoor Camera Plus uses Low-Light Sight for true-colour footage in dim light and switches to black and white in total darkness. Most night vision problems are caused by reflections or nearby light sources rather than a hardware fault.
Common Symptoms
- The night-time image is completely black
- The picture is washed out or overexposed at night
- Glare or a bright halo appears in the dark image
- Night vision worked before but has degraded
Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Check the Lens Cover
Make sure the Manual Lens Cover is not slid across the lens — this is the most common cause of a black picture on this camera.
2. Clean the Lens
Gently wipe the lens with a soft, dry cloth. Dust or fingerprints on the lens scatter the infrared light and cause a poor night picture.
3. Check for Reflective Surfaces
If the camera faces a window or mirror, the infrared night vision can reflect back and wash out the image. Reposition the camera away from glass.
4. Remove Nearby Light Sources
A bright light or lamp pointing toward the lens can interfere with night vision. Move the camera or the light source.
5. Restart the Camera
Unplug the camera for 30 seconds and plug it back in, then check the night picture once it has reconnected.
