Blink Video Doorbell Night Vision Not Working? Here’s How to Fix It

🔄 Try this first — Remove the doorbell’s batteries for 5 seconds, then reinsert them. Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds. If you use a Sync Module, power-cycle it by unplugging it for 10 seconds.

At night your camera switches to infrared (or colour night vision on supported models). Dark or washed-out footage usually comes down to settings, glare or a dirty lens.

What This Problem Means

If your Blink Video Doorbell is showing this fault, working through the checks below in order will resolve it in the large majority of cases. Each step is safe to try yourself and is based on Blink’s official guidance.

Common Symptoms

  • Black screen at night
  • No infrared illumination
  • Washed-out or glaring night image
  • Reflections ruining the picture

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Set night vision to Auto

In the camera’s settings, make sure night vision / IR is set to Auto.

2. Clean the lens

Gently wipe the lens with a soft cloth — dust and smears badly affect infrared.

3. Avoid bright light and glare

Reposition the camera away from bright light sources and reflective surfaces that cause glare.

4. Turn off nearby LEDs

If you are filming through glass or near a wall, turn off the Recording LED and IR LED to stop reflected light bouncing back.

5. Allow some ambient light (colour models)

Colour night vision needs a little ambient light; in total darkness the camera falls back to black-and-white infrared.
