Blink Video Doorbell Not Recording? Here’s How to Fix It

🔄 Try this first — Remove the doorbell’s batteries for 5 seconds, then reinsert them. Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds. If you use a Sync Module, power-cycle it by unplugging it for 10 seconds.

Clips are saved either to the cloud with a Blink Subscription or locally to a USB drive in a Sync Module. If nothing is being saved, check arming, motion and storage.

What This Problem Means

If your Blink Video Doorbell is showing this fault, working through the checks below in order will resolve it in the large majority of cases. Each step is safe to try yourself and is based on Blink’s official guidance.

Common Symptoms

  • No saved clips after motion
  • “Storage full” message
  • Gaps in the clip history
  • Live View works but nothing records

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Check the system is armed

Clips only record when the system is armed and Motion Detection is on for the camera.

2. Check your storage

Make sure you have an active Blink Subscription, or a USB drive fitted to your Sync Module with free space (up to 256GB on Sync Module 2).

3. Free up or replace the drive

If local storage is full, delete old clips or fit a larger, freshly formatted USB drive.

4. Confirm motion is working

If motion detection itself is failing, clips will not trigger — work through the motion detection fixes first.

5. Check clip and retrigger settings

Very short clip lengths or long retrigger times can make it look like nothing is recording.
