🔄 Try this first — Unplug the Echo from the wall, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.

Is your Echo (4th Gen) not playing music or returning errors when asked?

What This Problem Means

Music streaming is failing — usually caused by a disconnected streaming service account or a connection issue.

Common Symptoms

  • Asking for music returns an error
  • Music starts then stops
  • Alexa plays music on a different device instead of the Echo (4th Gen)

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Check Your Streaming Service Is Linked

In the Alexa app go to More → Music & Podcasts and confirm your streaming service is linked and connected. Re-link it if it shows disconnected.

2. Specify the Device When Requesting Music

Say “Alexa, play [artist] on Echo (4th Gen)” to ensure music plays on the correct device.

3. Check Your Internet Connection

Streaming music requires a stable connection. Ask Alexa “what’s the speed of my internet” or run a speed test on the same network.

4. Check the Default Music Service

In the Alexa app go to More → Music & Podcasts → Default Services. Confirm the correct service is set as default.

5. Restart the Device

Unplug the Echo from the wall, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow one minute to restart.
