If your Ring Battery Doorbell Pro (2nd Gen) is showing this problem, working through the checks below in order will resolve it in the large majority of cases. Each step is safe to carry out yourself and is verified against Ring’s official support guidance.
What This Problem Means
The battery is not charging or not reaching a full charge. This is usually a cable, port, adapter or degraded battery cell rather than a fault with the device itself.
Common Symptoms
- Battery percentage does not increase after connecting to charge
- Charging indicator does not light up on the battery
- Battery drains to zero and device goes offline
- Charge level drops immediately after reconnecting
Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Check the charging cable and adapter
Use the USB-C cable supplied with the device. Try a different USB-C cable and a USB power adapter rated at 5V/1A or higher. Check the USB-C port on the battery for dust or debris and clear gently with a dry toothpick.
2. Ensure the battery is correctly seated
Press the battery firmly until it clicks into place. An improperly seated battery will not register a charge in the Ring app.
3. Allow sufficient charging time
Ring batteries can take up to 5–10 hours to charge fully from empty. Leave connected to power for at least this time before assessing. The indicator should glow solid green when fully charged.
4. Test with a different power source
Try charging from a different wall outlet or USB charger. Some laptop USB ports do not deliver sufficient current to charge Ring batteries reliably.
5. Check battery health in Device Health
Open Device Health in the Ring app. If the battery shows as charging but the percentage is not rising after several hours, the battery cell may be degraded and need replacing.
