Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera Not Rotating
Is the pan-tilt base on your Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera not moving, getting stuck, or failing to respond to the app? Here are the checks you can safely carry out before contacting support.
What This Problem Means
The Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera has a motorised base you steer from the Ring app. When it won’t rotate, the cause is usually a physical obstruction, not enough clearance to move, or the camera needing to recalibrate — rarely a motor fault.
Common Symptoms
- The camera does not move when you use the arrows in the app
- It moves part way then stops or sticks
- The base makes a noise but does not turn
- Movement is jerky or it does not return to the Home Position
Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Give It Enough Clearance
Ring recommends at least 16.5cm (6.5 inches) of clearance on all sides so the camera can pan and tilt freely. Move anything that could block or catch the camera as it turns.
2. Move It Away From the Edge
If the camera is on a shelf or tabletop, place it away from the edge so it stays stable while calibrating or tilting. An unstable base can stop the movement.
3. Let It Recalibrate
The camera recalibrates when it powers on and whenever you change the Home Position. Unplug it for 30 seconds and plug it back in, and allow it to complete its calibration movement without touching it.
4. Use the Rotate Control Correctly
In Live View, tap Rotate, then tap and hold the on-screen arrows to pan or tilt until you lift your finger or the camera reaches the end of its range. A quick tap may not move it far.
5. Reset the Home Position
In the camera’s settings, set the Home Position again using the arrow buttons. The camera will recalibrate to the new position.
