🔄 Try this first — Use the release tool to remove the doorbell from the peephole mount, remove and reinsert the battery, then remount. Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds too.

If your Ring Peephole Cam is showing this problem, working through the checks below in order will resolve it in the large majority of cases. Each step is safe to carry out yourself and is verified against Ring’s official support guidance.

What This Problem Means

The Peephole Cam button sends a signal through the Ring app and, if configured, to a Ring Chime. If the battery, Wi-Fi or app settings are disrupted, the button appears not to work even though the mechanism may be fine.

Common Symptoms

  • Pressing the button produces no notification in the Ring app
  • No chime sound when the button is pressed
  • Button feels stuck or does not click properly
  • App shows the device as online but registers no button presses

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Check the battery level

Open Device Health and check the battery level. Below 20% the button can become unresponsive. Remove the device from the peephole, charge the battery via USB-C until solid green, reinsert and test.

2. Restart the device and router

Use the release tool to remove the Peephole Cam from the door, remove and reinsert the battery, then remount. Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds.

3. Check notification settings

In the Ring app confirm Doorbell Alerts are switched on. Check your phone’s notification settings for the Ring app. Ensure Do Not Disturb is not active.

4. Check chime settings

If you use a Ring Chime, confirm it is linked to the Peephole Cam in the Ring app and is powered on. Test with the in-app notification as an alternative to a physical chime.

5. Check Wi-Fi signal strength

Check RSSI in Device Health. Below −60 dBm and button presses may fail to register. A Ring Chime Pro can extend coverage.
