Is your Ring Video Doorbell 4 battery not charging, charging very slowly or showing an incorrect charge level? Here are the checks you can safely carry out before contacting support.

What This Problem Means

The battery is not accepting a charge — most commonly caused by a faulty cable, an insufficient power adapter or a battery that has been fully discharged.

Common Symptoms

  • Battery level is not increasing despite being connected to a charger
  • Charging LED not illuminating when connected
  • Battery charges partially then stops
  • Battery drains to zero and will not restart when reconnected

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Check the Charging Cable

Use the charging cable that came with the Ring Video Doorbell 4. Third-party cables may not supply sufficient current. Inspect the cable for damage and try a different USB port or wall adapter. Ring recommends a 1A or higher power adapter.

2. Try a Different Power Adapter

Connect the battery to a known-working USB charger rated at 1A or higher. A low-power adapter (such as a phone charger rated below 1A) will charge the battery very slowly or not at all.

3. Check the Charging Port

Inspect the charging port on the battery for dirt, debris or moisture. Use a dry, non-metallic object to gently clear any obstruction. Do not use compressed air directly into the port.

4. Allow for a Deeply Discharged Battery

A battery that has been completely discharged may take 15-20 minutes before it shows any charging indicator. Leave it connected and wait before concluding it is not charging.

5. Check Battery Temperature

Lithium batteries will not charge if too hot or too cold. Allow the battery to reach room temperature before attempting to charge. Charging in extreme temperatures can also permanently reduce battery capacity.
