If your Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is showing this problem, working through the checks below in order will resolve it in the large majority of cases. Each step is safe to carry out yourself and is verified against Ring’s official support guidance.
What This Problem Means
The doorbell button sends a signal through the Ring app and to your existing internal chime via the doorbell wiring. If power, Wi-Fi, app settings or chime wiring are disrupted, the button appears not to work.
Common Symptoms
- Pressing the button produces no notification in the Ring app
- No chime sound when the button is pressed
- Button feels stuck, stiff or does not click properly
- Existing internal chime does not ring
- App shows the doorbell as online but registers no button presses
Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Check the power supply
Switch off the circuit breaker supplying the doorbell for 10 seconds, then back on. Open Device Health and check the Power Source reading — it must show as Good. Ring requires 8–24 VAC, 10–40 VA from the transformer.
2. Check notification settings
In the Ring app, confirm Doorbell Alerts are switched on. Check your phone’s notification settings for the Ring app. Ensure Do Not Disturb is not active.
3. Check chime wiring
Confirm the In-Home Doorbell setting is enabled in Device Settings. Check the wiring at the chime unit — loose connections at the Front and Trans terminals are a common cause. Confirm the transformer is within 8–24 VAC.
4. Remove protective film and check the button physically
New Ring doorbells ship with a protective film over the button area. Peel it away if present. Press the button firmly and listen for a clean click.
5. Check Wi-Fi signal strength
Check RSSI in Device Health. Below −60 dBm can prevent button presses from registering. A Ring Chime Pro can extend Wi-Fi coverage.
