Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Check In-Home Doorbell Settings
In the Ring app go to Device Settings → In-Home Doorbell Settings and confirm the In-Home Doorbell toggle is switched on. This setting can be accidentally disabled. Also confirm the chime type is set correctly — Mechanical or Digital — to match your existing indoor chime.
2. Check Transformer Voltage
For hardwired models, open Device Health and check Power Health. A Poor reading indicates the transformer is not supplying sufficient voltage to operate the doorbell and chime simultaneously. Ring recommends a minimum 16VAC transformer.
3. Install a Ring Chime
A Ring Chime (sold separately) plugs into a standard wall socket and connects to your doorbell over Wi-Fi, providing a reliable indoor alert that does not depend on your existing doorbell wiring or transformer.
4. Check Existing Chime Wiring
If accessible, check the wiring connections at the indoor chime are secure. Loose terminals at the chime unit are a common cause of intermittent or absent ringing.
5. Check the Pro Power Kit
If a Ring Pro Power Kit was included with the doorbell, ensure it has been installed at the chime as per the Ring app instructions. Skipping this step is a common cause of chime failure on hardwired Ring doorbells.
