Nest Camera Problems — all models

What This Problem Means

The device cannot connect to your WiFi network and is inaccessible via the app.

Common Symptoms

• Device shown as offline in app
• Motion alerts have stopped
• Live view fails to load
• Notifications not being received

Safe Checks You Can Try

Check WiFi signal strength
1. Open the Nest app and select your Nest Doorbell Wired
2. Tap Device Settings then Device Health
3. Check the RSSI value — anything worse than -60 indicates weak signal
4. If signal is weak, move your router closer or add a WiFi extender

Verify 2.4GHz network is enabled
1. Log into your router admin panel (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1)
2. Check that 2.4GHz WiFi is enabled — Nest devices cannot use 5GHz
3. If using band steering or smart connect, disable it
4. Give your 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks different names

Check power supply
1. Verify the device is receiving power
2. For hardwired models, check your transformer provides the required voltage
3. Check circuit breaker has not tripped
4. For plug-in models, verify the power cable and outlet are working

Restart the device
1. Press and hold the setup button for 10 seconds
2. Release when the light flashes
3. Wait 90 seconds for the device to reboot and reconnect

Restart your router
1. Unplug your router and modem from power
2. Wait 30 seconds
3. Plug modem back in first and wait for lights to stabilise
4. Plug router back in and wait for WiFi to fully restart

If You Need Spare Parts

If you’re confident carrying out the repair yourself, compatible doorbell transformers are available on Amazon with next day delivery.

Always check your model number before ordering to ensure compatibility.

When To Contact A Professional

If the device remains offline after checking power supply, verifying WiFi settings and restarting the router, there may be a hardware fault with the device.
