eufyCam S4 Review: Pros, Cons, Common Issues & Is It Worth It?
4K wide + 2K PTZ | 360° tracking | Battery + 5.5W solar | 2.4GHz Wi-Fi | HomeBase 3 or standalone
Overview
The eufyCam S4 is a clever two-in-one: a fixed 4K wide-angle bullet camera paired with a 2K pan-tilt-zoom camera that automatically locks onto and tracks people. When the bullet camera spots motion, the PTZ lens follows the subject and zooms in from up to 50 metres, giving you both the full scene and a close-up from a single device.
Key Features
Setup & Compatibility
Set up in the eufy Security app on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. It works on its own with local AI tracking, or pair it to a HomeBase 3 for BionicMind face recognition and expandable storage. For 24/7 recording, hardwire it to 5V/2A power; on battery it records motion events.
What’s New
The bullet-plus-PTZ design is the standout — one camera that watches the whole area and actively tracks and zooms on people, rather than choosing between wide coverage and detail.

Is Eufy Safe? The Privacy History Explained
Eufy markets its cameras on privacy and local, subscription-free storage, but it’s worth knowing the background. In November 2022 a security researcher found that some eufy cameras uploaded thumbnail images to the cloud even when cloud features were switched off, and that camera streams could in some cases be viewed without authentication by anyone with the right link. In January 2023, eufy’s parent company Anker acknowledged to The Verge that its cameras were not natively end-to-end encrypted at that time.
In January 2025 the New York Attorney General secured a $450,000 settlement with the companies distributing eufy products over these security findings, requiring them to strengthen their security programme and encrypt video in storage and transit.
Since then eufy has moved its cameras to encrypted-by-default streaming, applied AES-128 and RSA-1024 encryption on HomeBase 3, run third-party security audits and launched a bug-bounty programme. If subscription-free local storage and strong privacy are the reason you’re looking at eufy, it’s sensible to keep firmware up to date and review your cloud and notification settings. We think the current products are a reasonable choice, but we’d rather you knew the full history and decided for yourself.

Common Problems & Fixes

Real World Performance
The S4 is genuinely different — the auto-tracking PTZ following someone across your garden while the wide lens holds the full scene is impressive, and it works without a hub. Battery models record motion-only; wire it in if you want continuous footage.

Who Should Buy It
The right choice if you want both wide coverage and an auto-tracking close-up from a single outdoor camera, with the option to run it without a HomeBase.
Verdict
The eufyCam S4 is one of the most versatile outdoor cameras around — a wide 4K view and a tracking PTZ close-up in one solar-powered unit.
