Is the night vision on your Nest Cam Battery failing to activate?
What This Problem Means
Infrared night vision is not engaging — most commonly caused by an external light source or an incorrect setting.
Common Symptoms
- Footage is very dark at night
- Camera does not switch to night mode at dusk
- Video has a pink or purple tint
Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Check Night Vision Setting
In the Google Home app go to your Nest Cam Battery → More → Settings → Video → Night Vision. Set to Auto.
2. Check for External Light Sources
Nearby lights shining at the lens prevent the camera detecting darkness. Adjust the camera angle.
3. Turn Night Vision Off Then On
In settings, switch Night Vision to Off, wait a few seconds, then switch back to Auto. This resets the sensor.
4. Clean the Lens
Outdoor grime affects the camera’s light sensor. Use a dry lint-free cloth to clean.
5. Restart the Device
Remove the battery from the camera, wait 10 seconds, then reinsert it. Per Google’s guidance a restart resets the night vision state.
