🔄 Try this first — Press the Quick Release button on the base of the doorbell to remove the Ultra Battery Pack, wait 10 seconds, then reinsert until it clicks. Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds too.

If your Ring Battery Doorbell Pro (2nd Gen) is showing this problem, working through the checks below in order will resolve it in the large majority of cases. Each step is safe to carry out yourself and is verified against Ring’s official support guidance.

What This Problem Means

Poor video quality from a Ring device is almost always caused by a weak Wi-Fi signal, slow internet connection or a dirty lens rather than a camera hardware fault.

Common Symptoms

  • Video appears blurry, pixelated or low resolution
  • Image is grainy, especially at night
  • Video stutters, freezes or drops frames
  • Colours appear washed out or incorrect
  • Live View quality is noticeably worse than recorded clips

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Check Wi-Fi signal strength (RSSI)

Open Device Health and check RSSI. Below −60 dBm causes the doorbell to reduce video quality to maintain the connection. Improve signal with a Ring Chime Pro or Wi-Fi extender.

2. Check internet upload speed

Ring recommends at least 2 Mbps upload speed per device for full-quality video. Test at fast.com or speedtest.net. If upload speed is below 2 Mbps, video quality will be automatically reduced.

3. Clean the lens

Dust, condensation, cobwebs or fingerprints on the lens are the most common cause of blurry video. Clean the lens with a soft, dry cloth.

4. Check video quality settings

Open Device Settings in the Ring app and check the Video Quality setting. Some models allow you to select HD or Standard quality. Ensure HD is selected.

5. Check battery level

A low battery (below 20%) can cause the device to reduce video quality to save power. Charge the battery fully.
