🔄 Try this first — Remove the removable rechargeable battery from the doorbell, wait 10 seconds, then reinsert it. Also restart your router by unplugging for 30 seconds.

Is your Ring Peephole Cam failing to detect motion or send notifications when someone approaches? Here are the checks you can safely carry out before contacting support.

What This Problem Means

The doorbell is online but not triggering recordings or sending notifications — most commonly caused by motion settings being misconfigured or notifications being disabled.

Common Symptoms

  • People approach the door with no alert or recording triggered
  • Event history shows few or no recent motion events
  • Motion alerts stopped after a Ring app update
  • Alerts arrive on some household members’ phones but not others

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Check Motion Sensitivity and Zones

Open the Ring app, go to your Ring Peephole Cam settings and check Motion Settings. Confirm motion sensitivity is not set too low and that motion zones cover the area where you expect activity. Ring’s motion detection uses passive infrared sensors that detect heat movement — zones need to be set correctly to trigger reliably.

2. Check Motion Alerts Are Enabled

In the Ring app, confirm Motion Alerts are switched on for your doorbell. Tap the three lines in the top left of the Ring app, go to your device and confirm the Motion Alerts toggle is on. This setting can be accidentally disabled.

3. Check Phone Notification Settings

Confirm that notifications are enabled for the Ring app in your phone’s system settings. On iOS: Settings → Apps → Ring → Notifications. On Android: Settings → Apps → Ring → Notifications. Do Not Disturb and Focus modes can also suppress Ring alerts.

4. Check Motion Frequency

In the Ring app go to Motion Settings and check Motion Frequency. If this is set to Light or Standard, the Ring Peephole Cam applies a cool-down period between motion events to preserve battery. Switch to Frequent to reduce missed detections.

5. Check Ring Protect Plan

Without an active Ring Protect plan, video recording for motion events may be limited. Verify your subscription status in the Ring app under Account → Ring Protect.
