Ring Wired Video Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) Not Ringing
Is your Ring Wired Video Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) not triggering your indoor chime when the button is pressed? Here are the checks you can safely carry out before contacting support.
What This Problem Means
The doorbell button is working and the Ring app is receiving notifications, but the existing indoor chime is not sounding. This is a hardwired doorbell-specific issue most commonly caused by insufficient transformer voltage or chime compatibility.
Common Symptoms
- Pressing the doorbell button triggers a Ring app notification but the indoor chime does not sound
- Indoor chime rings intermittently or makes a buzzing sound instead of chiming correctly
- Chime stopped working after the Ring doorbell was installed or after a power cut
- Chime worked initially but has stopped over time
Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Check Transformer Voltage in Device Health
Open the Ring app, go to Device Health and check the Power Health reading. It should show “Good”. If it shows “Poor”, your transformer is not supplying sufficient voltage to operate both the doorbell electronics and the chime simultaneously. The Ring Wired Video Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) requires 16–24VAC with 30–40VA recommended — many older UK doorbell transformers supply only 8–12VA which is insufficient.
2. Check Chime Type Compatibility
In the Ring app go to Device Settings → In-Home Doorbell Settings and confirm your chime type is correctly set (Mechanical or Digital). An incorrect chime type setting is a common cause of the chime not ringing or making a buzzing sound. If your chime is incompatible, a Ring Chime connected to your router provides an alternative indoor alert.
3. Check the Chime Is Enabled in the Ring App
In the Ring app go to Device Settings → In-Home Doorbell Settings and confirm the In-Home Doorbell toggle is switched on. This setting can be accidentally disabled.
4. Inspect Chime Wiring
If accessible, check the wiring connections at the indoor chime unit are secure. Loose terminals at the chime are a common cause of intermittent or absent ringing. If you are not confident working with electrical connections, ask a qualified electrician to check.
5. Install a Ring Chime as an Alternative
A Ring Chime (sold separately) plugs into a standard wall socket and connects to your doorbell over Wi-Fi, providing a reliable indoor alert that does not depend on your existing wiring or transformer. This is the recommended solution when existing chime compatibility cannot be resolved.
