Ring Wired Video Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) Two-Way Audio Not Working

🔄 Try this first — Switch off the power to the doorbell at the consumer unit for 10 seconds, then switch it back on. Also restart your router by unplugging for 30 seconds.

Is the two-way audio on your Ring Wired Video Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) not working — either you can’t hear the visitor or they can’t hear you? Here are the checks you can safely carry out before contacting support.

What This Problem Means

The Audio+ two-way talk feature is not functioning correctly. This is usually caused by a microphone permission being blocked on your phone, an insufficient internet connection or a temporary firmware state that a reboot resolves.

Common Symptoms

  • You can see the visitor on Live View but cannot hear them or speak to them
  • The visitor cannot hear you when you speak through the Ring app
  • Audio works in one direction only — you can hear but not speak, or speak but not hear
  • Audio worked previously but stopped after an app update

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Check Microphone Permission on Your Phone

The Ring app requires microphone permission to use two-way talk. On iOS: Settings → Apps → Ring → Microphone — ensure this is enabled. On Android: Settings → Apps → Ring → Permissions → Microphone — ensure this is enabled. Without this permission the app cannot transmit your voice.

2. Check Your Internet Speed

Two-way audio requires sufficient bandwidth in both directions. Run a speed test on your phone’s network. If your download or upload speed is very low, audio quality will be poor or the feature will fail. Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data to see if one performs better.

3. Check the Phone’s Media Volume

During a Live View session, use your phone’s volume buttons to increase the media volume. Audio from the doorbell plays through your phone’s media channel — if the volume is set to zero you will not hear the visitor even if the audio is working correctly.

4. Reboot the Doorbell

Switch the circuit breaker supplying the doorbell off for 10 seconds, then back on. Allow two minutes for the doorbell to fully restart. A firmware reboot resolves most temporary audio issues including one-directional audio.

5. Update the Ring App

Check the App Store or Google Play for any pending Ring app updates and install them. An outdated version of the Ring app can cause two-way talk to stop working correctly.
