Ring Outdoor Camera Pro Not Detecting Motion
Is your Ring Outdoor Camera Pro missing motion events or not sending alerts? Here are the checks you can safely carry out before contacting support.
What This Problem Means
The Ring Outdoor Camera Pro uses radar-powered 3D Motion Detection to trigger recordings and alerts. Missed motion is usually down to motion settings, notification settings, or detection zones set too narrowly.
Common Symptoms
- The camera does not record when there is clearly movement
- You stop receiving motion notifications
- Some movement is detected but a lot is missed
- Motion alerts arrive late
Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Check Motion Alerts Are On
In Settings then Motion Settings, confirm Motion Alerts and Motion Detection are switched on.
2. Review Your Motion Zones
Open Motion Zones and make sure they cover the area you want monitored. Movement outside a zone will not trigger the camera.
3. Check Sensitivity
Adjust the motion sensitivity upward if movement is being missed, and check Smart Alerts or frequency settings are not filtering events out.
4. Check Phone Notifications
Confirm notifications are enabled for the Ring app in your phone settings, and Do Not Disturb is not silencing alerts.
5. Restart the Camera
Unplug the camera for 30 seconds and plug it back in to refresh motion detection, then test by walking through the monitored area.
When To Contact Support
If you have worked through the checks above and the issue persists, contact Ring support at https://ring.com/gb/en/support. Have your device serial number ready — find it in Device Health in the Ring app.
