Ring Indoor Camera Plus Black Screen
Is the live picture from your Ring Indoor Camera Plus completely black? Here are the checks you can safely carry out before contacting support.
What This Problem Means
A black screen on the Ring Indoor Camera Plus usually means something is physically blocking the lens — most often the Manual Lens Cover — or the camera has lost its connection and cannot stream. It rarely means the camera is faulty.
Common Symptoms
- The Live View image is completely black day and night
- You can hear audio but see no picture
- The picture went black after handling the camera
- A black image with a spinning loader
Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Check the Manual Lens Cover
This camera comes with a detachable Manual Lens Cover. If it is slid across the lens, the picture will be black. Slide it open, or remove it entirely, and check Live View again. Note that the cover blocks video only — the microphone stays on unless you disable it in the app.
2. Check Nothing Else Is Blocking the Lens
Make sure no object, sticker or surface is pressed against the lens, and that the camera has not been turned to face a wall.
3. Check the Camera Is Online
Open Settings then Device Health and confirm the camera is online. A black image with a loading spinner usually means a connection problem rather than the cover — follow the offline and Live View checks if so.
4. Restart the Camera
Unplug the camera for 30 seconds and plug it back in, then reopen Live View once it has reconnected.
5. Check the Ring App Is Updated
Make sure the Ring app is up to date, as an out-of-date app can occasionally fail to render the video feed.
When To Contact Support
If you have worked through the checks above and the issue persists, contact Ring support at https://ring.com/gb/en/support. Have your device serial number ready — find it in Device Health in the Ring app.
