If your Ring Battery Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen) is showing this problem, working through the checks below in order will resolve it in the large majority of cases. Each step is safe to carry out yourself and is verified against Ring’s official support guidance.
What This Problem Means
Live View lets you see a real-time stream from your Ring device. When it fails to load, it is almost always a Wi-Fi signal or internet speed issue rather than a hardware fault.
Common Symptoms
- Live View shows a spinning wheel and times out
- Live View connects but immediately cuts out
- Black screen when opening Live View
- Error message “Live View is currently unavailable”
- Video freezes within a few seconds of connecting
Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Check Wi-Fi signal strength (RSSI)
Open Device Health and check RSSI. Live View is data-intensive and requires a stronger signal than basic motion alerts. Below −60 dBm will cause Live View to time out or cut out. Add a Ring Chime Pro or Wi-Fi extender to improve coverage.
2. Check internet upload speed
Ring recommends at least 2 Mbps upload speed per device for Live View. Test your broadband upload speed at fast.com or speedtest.net. If it is below 2 Mbps, Live View may be unreliable.
3. Restart the device and router
Remove and reinsert the battery to restart the doorbell, and restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds. Temporary network congestion is a common cause of Live View failures.
4. Check the Ring app and phone connection
Ensure the Ring app is up to date. Try switching your phone from Wi-Fi to mobile data (4G/5G) — if Live View works on mobile data but not Wi-Fi, the issue is your home network rather than the doorbell itself.
5. Check battery level
A low battery (below 20%) can prevent Live View from loading. Charge the battery fully and test again.
