Ring Floodlight Cam (2nd Gen) Floodlights Flashing On and Off

🔄 Try this first — Switch off the power to the camera at the fuse box for 10 seconds, then switch it back on. Also restart your router by unplugging for 30 seconds.

Are the floodlights on your Ring Floodlight Cam (2nd Gen) repeatedly flashing on and off, or cycling throughout the night? Here are the checks you can safely carry out before contacting support.

What This Problem Means

The floodlights are activating and deactivating repeatedly — usually caused by oversensitive motion detection triggering on background movement, or an electrical supply issue at the installation point.

Common Symptoms

  • Floodlights switch on for a few seconds, then off, then on again throughout the night
  • Lights activate with no visible person or vehicle in the camera’s field of view
  • Constant short motion events appearing in Ring history
  • Flashing began after a power cut or electrical work in the property

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Reduce Light Sensitivity

Open the Ring app, go to Device Settings > Light Settings and reduce the Light Sensitivity setting. Oversensitive light detection picks up minor background movement such as rustling leaves, insects and reflections — reducing sensitivity prevents unnecessary triggering.

2. Check for Environmental Triggers

Review recent motion clips in the Ring app to identify what is triggering the lights. Common culprits include tree branches moving in wind, reflective surfaces, insects flying close to the lens at night and small animals. Adjust the camera angle or motion zones to exclude these areas.

3. Check for Wiring Issues

For a hardwired camera, fluctuating or insufficient power supply can cause the floodlights to cycle. Confirm the circuit provides a steady 16–24V AC supply. If in doubt, ask a qualified electrician to check the wiring at the junction box.

4. Check for Snow or Rain Reflection

Wet surfaces, frost and snow can reflect ambient light in a way that repeatedly triggers the motion sensor. This is a known issue with outdoor security cameras during winter months. Reduce Light Sensitivity until conditions improve.

5. Reboot the Camera

Switch the circuit off at the fuse box for 10 seconds and switch it back on. Allow the camera to fully restart before testing. A firmware glitch can sometimes cause the light control relay to cycle — a reboot usually resolves this.
