Ring Floodlight Cam (2nd Gen) Floodlights Not Triggering

🔄 Try this first — Switch off the power to the camera at the fuse box for 10 seconds, then switch it back on. Also restart your router by unplugging for 30 seconds.

Are the 2000-lumen floodlights on your Ring Floodlight Cam (2nd Gen) failing to activate when motion is detected? Here are the checks you can safely carry out before contacting support.

What This Problem Means

The floodlights are not turning on automatically as expected — this is usually a setting in the Ring app rather than a hardware fault, and can be resolved without contacting support.

Common Symptoms

  • Motion is detected and recorded by the camera but the floodlights do not activate
  • Floodlights can be turned on manually via the Ring app but will not trigger automatically
  • Floodlights worked previously but stopped after an app or firmware update
  • Only triggering during certain conditions — for example, only when motion is very close

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Check Motion-Activated Lights Is Enabled

Open the Ring app, tap on your Floodlight Cam and go to Device Settings, then Light Settings. Confirm the Motion-Activated Lights toggle is switched on. This is the primary setting that controls automatic floodlight activation.

2. Check the Light Schedule

In Light Settings, review whether a Light Schedule is active that is blocking the floodlights during certain hours. An incorrectly configured schedule is a common cause of lights appearing to fail.

3. Reboot the Camera

In Device Health within the Ring app, tap Reboot This Device. Allow two minutes for the camera to restart fully, then test the floodlights. A software reboot resolves most cases where lights stopped working without any settings change.

4. Check Light Sensitivity

In Device Settings > Light Settings, review the Light Sensitivity level. If it is set very low, the motion sensor may not reach the threshold needed to trigger the floodlights even when the camera detects motion for recording.

5. Check the Circuit Breaker

For hardwired cameras, a partial power fault can affect the lights independently from the camera. Check the circuit breaker supplying the camera is fully switched on and has not tripped partially.
