🔄 Try this first — Press and hold the orange button on the back of the camera for 20 seconds until the light on the front flashes, then release. The camera will restart. Also restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds.

If your Ring Spotlight Cam (2nd Gen) is showing this problem, working through the checks below in order will resolve it in the large majority of cases.

What This Problem Means

The Ring Spotlight Cam (2nd Gen) battery is depleting faster than expected. High motion activity, poor Wi-Fi signal and cold weather can all significantly reduce battery life.

Common Symptoms

  • Battery depletes much faster than expected
  • Frequent low battery notifications in the Ring app
  • Camera goes offline due to low charge
  • Battery not lasting as long as previously

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Reduce motion sensitivity and zones

In the Ring app go to Motion Settings. Reduce sensitivity and tighten Motion Zones to exclude busy roads or areas beyond your property. Each motion event uses battery power.

2. Check Wi-Fi signal strength

A weak Wi-Fi signal causes the camera to work harder to maintain its connection, draining the battery faster. Improve the signal with a Wi-Fi extender.

3. Reduce Live View usage

Frequent manual Live View sessions drain the battery significantly faster than motion-triggered recording alone. Reduce unnecessary Live View usage.

4. Check operating temperature

Battery performance reduces in cold weather below 0°C. Reduced performance in winter is normal, not a fault.

5. Consider a spare battery or solar panel

The Ring Spotlight Cam (2nd Gen) uses the Quick Release Battery Pack which can be swapped out. Having a spare charged battery means you can swap immediately, or a compatible Ring Solar Panel can help keep the battery topped up.
