Tapo C425 Night Vision Not Working? Here’s How to Fix It
At night your camera uses infrared (or colour night vision with a starlight sensor on ColorPro models). A dark or washed-out picture usually comes down to settings, glare or a dirty lens.
What This Problem Means
If your Tapo C425 is showing this fault, working through the checks below in order resolves it in the large majority of cases. Each step is safe to try yourself and follows TP-Link’s official Tapo guidance.
Common Symptoms
- Black screen at night
- No infrared glow
- Washed-out or glaring image
- Reflections spoiling the picture
Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Check the night vision mode
In Device Settings > Night Vision, make sure it is set to Auto (or the colour mode on ColorPro models).
2. Clean the lens
Wipe the lens gently with a soft cloth — dust and smears badly affect infrared.
3. Avoid glare
Move the camera away from bright lights and reflective surfaces, and don’t film through glass, which bounces IR back.
4. Allow some ambient light
Colour night vision needs a little ambient light; in total darkness the camera falls back to black-and-white infrared.
5. Check the IR LEDs
If you see no red glow from the front in the dark, the camera may need a firmware update or a reset.
