Ring Wired Video Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) Not Detecting Motion

🔄 Try this first — Switch off the power to the doorbell at the consumer unit for 10 seconds, then switch it back on. Also restart your router by unplugging for 30 seconds.

Is your Ring Wired Video Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) failing to detect motion or trigger alerts when someone approaches? Here are the checks you can safely carry out before contacting support.

What This Problem Means

The doorbell is powered and connected but its 3D Motion Detection is not triggering recordings or sending notifications. This is most commonly caused by motion zone settings, sensitivity configuration or the radar-powered 3D detection needing recalibration.

Common Symptoms

  • People and vehicles approach without any motion alert or recording being triggered
  • Ring event history shows few or no recent motion events
  • Motion alerts stopped after a Ring app update or settings change
  • Alerts are received by other household members but not on your device

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Check Motion Sensitivity and Zones

Open the Ring app, go to your doorbell’s Motion Settings and review both sensitivity and motion zones. The 3D Motion Detection on the Wired Video Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) is radar-powered and uses configurable zones. Ensure zones are drawn to cover the area where you expect activity, and increase sensitivity if needed.

2. Check 3D Motion Detection Is Enabled

In the Ring app go to Motion Settings and confirm 3D Motion Detection is active. If it has been switched to standard motion detection only, the radar-powered precision will not be in use and detection may be less reliable.

3. Check Smart Alerts Settings

If Smart Alerts are enabled, the doorbell may be filtering certain motion types. Go to Motion Settings → Smart Alerts and confirm all relevant categories (People, Vehicles, Other Motion) are switched on.

4. Check Notification Settings on Your Phone

Open the Ring app and confirm Motion Alerts are not snoozed. Then check your phone’s system notification settings to ensure the Ring app has permission to send alerts. Do Not Disturb and Focus modes can also block notifications.

5. Check Ring Protect Subscription

Without an active Ring Protect plan, video recording for motion events may be limited. Check your subscription status in the Ring app under Account.
