What This Problem Means
The doorbell is connecting but not maintaining a stable connection. Repeated disconnections are almost always caused by an intermittent Wi-Fi signal, an unstable power supply or router interference — not a fault with the doorbell itself.
Common Symptoms
- Ring app sends repeated offline and reconnected notifications throughout the day
- Live View drops connection mid-stream
- Motion recordings have gaps when the camera should have been online
- Disconnections happen more frequently at certain times of day or when other devices are in use
Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength
Open Device Health in the Ring app and note the signal strength indicator. A reading in the amber or red zone means the Wi-Fi signal at the doorbell’s location is marginal and will cause intermittent disconnections. A Ring Chime Pro or Wi-Fi extender positioned between the router and the front door can improve stability.
2. Check for Wi-Fi Interference
Other devices on the same channel as the doorbell can cause intermittent drops. Log into your router settings and try manually setting the Wi-Fi channel. On 2.4GHz, channels 1, 6 or 11 are best. Microwave ovens and cordless phones can also cause temporary 2.4GHz interference.
3. Check Power Supply Stability
Open Device Health and monitor the Power Health reading over time. If it occasionally shows “Poor”, the transformer voltage may be dropping under load. An electrician can verify whether your transformer is reliably supplying 30–40VA as required.
4. Restart Your Router
Unplug your router for 30 seconds and plug it back in. Some routers develop connection table issues over time that cause smart home devices to be periodically dropped. A router reboot often resolves this pattern.
5. Check Whether Other Devices Also Disconnect
If other Ring devices or smart home devices on the same network also disconnect at the same time, the issue is likely with your router or internet connection rather than the doorbell. Contact your internet provider if this is the case.
