If your Ring Floodlight Cam (2nd Gen) is showing this problem, working through the checks below in order will resolve it in the large majority of cases.
What This Problem Means
The Ring Floodlight Cam (2nd Gen) features 200–2000 lumen adjustable floodlights that cover a 270° horizontal arc. When the lights are not working, it is almost always a settings or trigger configuration issue rather than a hardware fault.
Common Symptoms
- Floodlights do not activate when motion is detected
- Lights activate but immediately turn off
- Lights are dimmer than expected
- App controls for the lights not responding
Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Check light settings in the Ring app
Open the Ring app, tap the camera and go to Light Settings. Confirm the lights are set to Auto (motion-triggered). Check the brightness is not set to minimum.
2. Check the light schedule
In the Ring app check whether the lights have a schedule set to operate only at certain times. If scheduled off during the time you are testing, they will not activate.
3. Confirm motion detection is active
The floodlights are triggered by motion detection. Confirm Motion Detection is switched on in Device Settings. If motion detection is off, the lights will not activate automatically.
4. Test the lights manually
In the Ring app look for a manual light toggle in Device Settings. If the lights activate manually but not on motion, the issue is with trigger settings.
5. Check the power supply
Switch off the circuit breaker supplying the Floodlight Cam for 10 seconds, then switch it back on. A power interruption can sometimes reset the lights to an unexpected state.
