🔄 Try this first — Switch off the circuit breaker supplying the doorbell for 10 seconds, then switch it back on. Wait 60 seconds for the doorbell to restart fully. Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds too.

If your Ring Wired Doorbell (2nd Gen) is showing this problem, working through the checks below in order will resolve it in the large majority of cases. Each step is safe to carry out yourself and is verified against Ring’s official support guidance.

What This Problem Means

Live View lets you see a real-time stream from your Ring device. When it fails to load, it is almost always a Wi-Fi signal or internet speed issue rather than a hardware fault.

Common Symptoms

  • Live View shows a spinning wheel and times out
  • Live View connects but immediately cuts out
  • Black screen when opening Live View
  • Error message “Live View is currently unavailable”
  • Video freezes within a few seconds of connecting

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Check Wi-Fi signal strength (RSSI)

Open Device Health and check RSSI. Below −60 dBm will cause Live View to time out. Add a Ring Chime Pro or Wi-Fi extender to improve coverage.

2. Check internet upload speed

Ring recommends at least 2 Mbps upload speed per device. Test at fast.com or speedtest.net.

3. Restart the device and router

Switch off the circuit breaker supplying the doorbell for 10 seconds, then back on. Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds.

4. Check the Ring app and phone connection

Ensure the Ring app is up to date. Try switching your phone to mobile data — if Live View works on mobile data but not Wi-Fi, the issue is your home network.

5. Check power supply

Open Device Health and confirm Power Source shows as Good. Insufficient power can prevent Live View from functioning.
