🔄 Try this first — Switch off the circuit breaker supplying the doorbell for 10 seconds, then switch it back on. Wait 60 seconds for the doorbell to restart fully. Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds too.

If your Ring Wired Doorbell (2nd Gen) is showing this problem, working through the checks below in order will resolve it in the large majority of cases. Each step is safe to carry out yourself and is verified against Ring’s official support guidance.

What This Problem Means

When a Ring device goes offline it loses its Wi-Fi connection and stops sending alerts, recording motion or streaming live video. This is the most common Ring fault and is almost always caused by a power or Wi-Fi issue rather than a hardware problem.

Common Symptoms

  • Red ‘no Wi-Fi’ icon shown over the device in the Ring app
  • No motion alerts or notifications being received
  • Live View fails to connect
  • Device Health shows the device as offline
  • Last event shown in the app was some time ago

Safe Checks You Can Try

1. Check the power supply

Switch off the circuit breaker supplying the doorbell for 10 seconds, then switch it back on. Open Device Health and check the Power Source reading — it must show as Good. Ring wired doorbells require 8–24 VAC from the transformer.

2. Restart the router

Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds. Wait 2 minutes for it to come back up fully, then check whether the doorbell reconnects automatically.

3. Check Wi-Fi signal strength (RSSI)

In Device Health, check the RSSI value. Below −60 dBm is borderline and below −70 dBm will cause regular dropouts. Improve signal with a Ring Chime Pro or Wi-Fi extender if needed.

4. Check for network changes

If your Wi-Fi password or router has changed recently, the doorbell will need reconnecting. Open the Ring app, go to Device Settings and reconnect to Wi-Fi with the new credentials.

5. Check transformer voltage

If the doorbell is losing power intermittently, check the transformer. Ring requires 8–24 VAC, 10–40 VA. An undersized or ageing transformer can cause the doorbell to drop offline under load.
