Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera Black Screen
Is the live picture from your Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera completely black? Here are the checks you can safely carry out before contacting support.
What This Problem Means
A black screen on the Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera usually means the manual Privacy Cover is closed over the lens, or the camera has lost its connection and cannot stream. On this model the Privacy Cover turns off both video and audio, so it rarely means the camera is faulty.
Common Symptoms
- The Live View image is completely black
- No video and no audio at all
- The picture went black after handling the camera
- A black image with a spinning loader
Safe Checks You Can Try
1. Check the Privacy Cover
Swivel the manual Privacy Cover to the side to reactivate the camera, or remove it entirely. On this model the cover turns off both video and audio, so a black, silent feed is almost always the cover.
2. Check Nothing Else Is Blocking the Lens
Make sure no object or surface is pressed against the lens and the camera has not panned to face a wall.
3. Check the Camera Is Online
Open Settings then Device Health and confirm the camera is online. A black image with a loading spinner usually means a connection problem rather than the cover — follow the offline and Live View checks if so.
4. Restart the Camera
Unplug the camera for 30 seconds and plug it back in, then reopen Live View once it has reconnected.
5. Check the Ring App Is Updated
Make sure the Ring app is up to date, as an out-of-date app can occasionally fail to render the video feed.
When To Contact Support
If you have worked through the checks above and the issue persists, contact Ring support at https://ring.com/gb/en/support. Have your device serial number ready — find it in Device Health in the Ring app.
